  • Senior Ecologist

    About the vacancy:

    Coombes is seeking a full time Senior Ecologist to play an integral role in the development and implementation of our Environmental Strategy.  As Senior Ecologist you will establish, manage and develop ecological management strategies, plans and resources across the company.   You will ensure senior management is kept informed of the ecological status of our active sites and be experienced in data collation and technical report-writing.

    This is also a hands-on role in which you will conduct ecological studies and impact assessments across a range of projects and environments to identify and advise how Coombes can balance the needs of our projects with those of the environment.  You will subsequently implement, monitor and evaluate protective actions/measures etc., reporting to senior management as required.

    The ideal candidate will be pragmatic, an excellent communicator, self-motivated and able to work autonomously.  As well as sharing the ethos and values of our Company and having significant experience as an Ecologist, candidates must also have the following:

    • Degree in a related subject, or equivalent
    • Protected species handling licence/s (ideally dormice, newts, bats)
    • Associate Member of CIEEM
    • Highly organised with excellent analytical and report-writing skills
    • Rail PTS qualified (desirable)
    • Experience in the rail industry (desirable)
    • Line management experience (desirable)

    You will be field-based for a significant amount of your time, so you must be happy to work in all that the British weather has to offer!  Based in Hampshire and conducting field work across the southern region, the successful candidate must be flexible in their approach to work, have a full driving licence and be willing to travel.

    Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 DOE. A Company van will be available for the postholder.

    Working hours: 40 hours per week, to be worked Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm with 1hr unpaid break each day.  This role will require some out of hours working associated with ecological surveys, including weekends, evenings and overnight.

  • Senior Health and Safety Advisor

    Coombes has seen recent significant growth and we are proud to be a Principal Contractor and Framework Contractor to Network Rail.  We are looking for a new Senior Health and Safety Advisor to join our Health & Safety team to support the growth of the business and promote compliance with the Safety Management System.

    About the vacancy:

    Coombes requires a Senior Health and Safety Advisor, experienced in the rail industry, to play an active role in our busy Health & Safety team, on a full-time permanent basis to grow with the Company.

    The successful applicant will proactively maintain and develop their knowledge of health, safety and welfare at work legislation and best practice, ensuring Coombes not only meets its legal and contractual obligations but acts as an industry leader in its Health and Safety practices.  We are looking for a confident professional who takes a hands-on approach in supporting and directing line managers and operatives alike, to work at the highest safety standards.

    As Senior Health and Safety Advisor, you will design, implement, review and evaluate a range of documented plans, procedures and on-site measures to meet requirements and re-enforce positive health and safety behaviours.   You will take an active role in accident investigations, conducting risk assessments, inspections and audits, ensure compliance across the Company and help to embed a strong Health & Safety culture at Coombes.

    This role will require you to be an excellent communicator who is self-motivated, able to work autonomously and coach junior team members. As well as sharing the ethos and values of our Company and having recent and significant experience within the Rail industry, candidates must have the following:

     

    • NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, or near completion, or similar
    • PTS (Personal Track Safety)
    • Training and excellent working knowledge of COSHH, PUWER and LOLER
    • Accident investigation experience
    • IOSH membership

     

    Whilst this role will be based at our head office in Hampshire, you will travel frequently to sites across south, central and west England.  The successful candidate must therefore have a full driving licence.

     

    Salary:  £40-45,000 DOE + company van for business use.

    About the vacancy:
    Coombes requires an experienced Recruitment & HR Coordinator to support our growth by finding and attracting the right people with the right talent. Reporting to the HR Manager, the successful applicant will coordinate end-to-end recruitment activity across the Company, providing a professional service to internal and external stakeholders.

    Effectively liaising with hiring managers, you will ensure accurate depiction of vacancies and advertise appropriately, utilising your skills in brand development. You will take the lead in the coordination and design of interview processes and support throughout. The successful candidate will keep abreast of the labour market, proactively benchmark and report trends and KPI’s.

    As Recruitment & HR Coordinator you will also support with a variety of HR administrative tasks including with onboarding processes, IR35 as well as maintaining spreadsheets. Candidates must therefore be highly organised with excellent attention to detail and knowledge/experience of onboarding. You will also have a thorough understanding of, and experience in, the application of GDPR and equality and diversity principles/practices in recruitment.

    The role will require you to be a confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, a self motivated team member who can work both independently and ‘muck-in’ as part of a team.

    Salary: £23,000-£25,000 pro rata

    Working hours: This is a part time role and we are open to discussion around working hours. Anticipated to be between 20 and 30 hours per week, across four days per week.

CS30 (201) CS 31 desirable, but not necessary as on the job training to certification given to the right candidate.  This role will also cover candidates that are looking to progress into climbing, machinery operation and supervisory roles.

  • Chainsaw Operators

    NPTC CS30/31 Qualified and experienced chainsaw operators preferably with CS38 and CS39. Utility/Rail qualifications and/or experience desirable

  • Machine Operative

    Experience is essential in these roles and ideally you will have the relevant certification such as FMOCs and CPCS. Driver and the ability to work well on your own as well as part of a team is a must.

  • Team Leader

    We are able to offer team leader roles for candidates who have a proven track record with several years experience and have a broad range of competencies, driver essential.

  • Climbers

    We have roles for both new and experienced climbers but must have the relevant certification.
