About the vacancy

COOMBES requires a Mechanic on a full-time permanent basis to support the safe, efficient and effective operations of our Machinery, Yard and Workshop. This varied role would suit an individual with mechanic experience, with typical duties and responsibilities including:  


·        Inspection, repair, service and maintenance of all vehicles, plant, machinery, tools &equipment

·        Maintain the inventory of equipment and machinery

·        Receive and book-in deliveries of equipment/tools

·        Attend breakdowns across south-central England, diagnosing and repairing faults onsite

·        Conduct vehicle/plant services and inspections, repairing/replacing damaged/worn parts

The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role, hold qualification/s in mechanics or engineering and have a full driving licence. Welding experience and hydraulics knowledge would be beneficial, but COOMBES is committed to providing training and professional development to colleagues who reflect the ethos and values of our Company.  


Applicants must be confident working with various tools, have a strong work ethic and a good working knowledge of health and safety practices.  You will take pride in your work, complete tasks to a high standard and be a self-motivated team member who can work both independently and as part of a team.


Building good working relationships with clients and colleagues, you will have a methodical approach to solving problems and have excellent attention to detail. To succeed in this role, you will need to proactively keep up to date with changing technology, follow procedures and ensure paperwork is completed accurately, within set timeframes.


This role can be physically demanding and some tasks will be at heights.  As Mechanic, you will be required to work outside from time to time, so you must be happy to work in all that the British weather has to offer!

Salary: £13-15 per hour

Working Hours: Mon - Fri, 8:00am - 5:00pm
