About the vacancy:

Coombes is seeking a full time Ecologist to join our close-knit team, on a full-time permanent basis.  As a key member of our Environment team, you will play an integral role in the development and implementation of our Environmental Strategy.  As Ecologist you will establish, manage and develop ecological management strategies, plans and resources across the company.  You will work closely with senior management, keeping them informed of the ecological status of our active sites.

This is also a hands-on role inwhich you will conduct ecological studies and impact assessments across a range of projects and environments to identify and advise how together we can balance the needs of ourprojects with those of the environment

This role is ideally suited to someone with experience working as an Ecologist and is looking for the next step in their career. The ideal candidate will be pragmatic, an excellent communicator, self-motivated, a team player with the ability to work autonomously.  As well as sharing the ethos and values of our Company, candidates should also have the following:

  • Degree in a related subject, or equivalent
  • Protected species handling licence/s (ideally dormice, newts, bats)
  • Associate Member of CIEEM
  • Highly organised and experienced in data collation and technical report-writing
  • Experience in the rail industry (desirable)
  • Line management experience (desirable)

Naturally, you will be field-based for a significant amount of your time, so you must be happy to work in all that the British weather has to offer!  Based in Hampshire and conducting field work across the southern region, the successful candidate must be flexible in their approach to work, have a full driving licence and be willing to travel.

Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 DOE + company vehicle (for commuting and business use)

Working Hours: 40 hours per week, to be worked Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm with 1hr unpaid break. This role will require some out of hours working, including at weekends and evenings.
